"Scream is a great place to volunteer because the event is filled with people who enjoy creating great entertainment."
Expectations & Requirements
Serving as a Cast Member of Scream is an honor reserved for the best of the best. It's an experience that will provide you with important skills and a reputation that you can use in your career, be it theater or business. Scream Cast Members are sought out by business owners because they are the kind of people that have the kinds of qualities they seekthings like reliability, trust, cheerfulness, courteousness, cleanliness, and dedication.
High Standards
We set high expectations for everyone involved in this show, and our Cast lives up to them. Anyone who does not is kindly invited to depart. Our show requires that we dedicate ourselves to meeting these high standards in order to maintain our reputation for providing quality entertainment that our peers are envious of and the public loves.
These are some of the basic requirements to be a part of our Cast. The training you will receive in Monster College in September will go over these and more in detail, to help prepare you for your role in the show.
- Always Stay in Character
Being a Cast Member in this show means that you are fiercely dedicated to providing a top quality experience for our guests. It means that you are always ready to fulfill the requirements for your role in the show. It means that a guest will never see you doing anything that is contrary to your rolee.g. texting, eating or drinking, talking on the phone or to another Cast Member, or anything else that would detract from the illusion that you are creating. You must remember that the main reason you are here is to focus on the needs of our guests, be it as a performer or support staff. You must never allow anything to detract from their experience, because all it takes is one small failure to ruin the fantasy that we are trying to create. A guest can go through an entire show, experiencing a top rate performance overall, but it will be the one actor that they saw drinking a Pepsi or texting on their phone when they entered their scene that they will remember and talk about with friends. Our goal is to make sure that this never happens by being 100% focused on the guest; knowing where they are and anticipating how soon they will be entering our scene; and doing our absolute best to add to their experience and never detract. Personal activities are never conducted in a place where guests can see them. As far as they are concerned, you are a real monster and you do not use things like phones, or drink anything other than blood.
- Reliability
The best actor in the world is of no use to us if they are unreliable. We expect that everyone involved in this show will demonstrate through their actions that they are dedicated and reliable by showing up not just on time, but early to all Cast Activities. That way you can be prepared for slow traffic or a delayed train/bus. Our actors return from breaks on time, do not request excessive breaks, or leave early, as this detracts from the quality of the experience for our guests and puts an undue strain on your fellow actors who will need to fill in for you during your absence.
Being reliable is also perhaps the most important quality for a potential employer. They can teach you new jobs skills, but personal qualities like reliability are a part of who you are, and will make a difference in your value to a company, and thus the cause for raises and bonuses. If you are reliable, you will stand out from the masses that demonstrate daily that they just don't care enough about their reputation to take the steps necessary to be reliable to an employer. Make sure that you take your role seriously, because we will be relying on you to completely fulfill your part in the show. Everyone working together to create the fantasy is why our guests shout praises about our show, boasting "I come every year!"
- Trustworthy
Things like trust and honesty are not just suggested qualities for our Cast Members; they are requirements. Anyone that does not measure up will not be in this show. We treat each other's personal belongings with respect. We demonstrate through our actions that we are the kind of people whom others can trust at all times.
- Cheerful, Positive Attitude
We demonstrate a positive "can do" attitude, especially when stress levels rise, in order to stay focused on the task at hand. This is a very big show with big jobs to perform, and we'll never perform them well if we are negative, gossiping, or behaving in a poor manner. "The show must go on" is our motto.
- Courteous
We relate to each other and our guests in a friendly manner and with respect at all times, even when the other person may not be entirely worthy, because we are professionals. We all must do this in order to maintain the kind of atmosphere that makes our experience working together here so much fun, and to maintain our positive reputation in our community.
- Cleanliness
Scream Cast Members arrive each night ready to perform: clean, well groomed, dressed in lightweight clothing to keep from overheating. Anyone who needs a bath or does not use deodorant will be excused. You will be in close proximity to other performers so we require this for their sake, but even if you are not, being a professional means that you are clean.
- Dedication
We want Cast Members who are dedicated to doing their best to fulfill their part in the show. By being 100% dedicated, you will help to eliminate things that detract from our guest experience or cause undue problems for your fellow Cast Members.
- Safety Standards
More important than anything else, we all must dedicate ourselves to learning and maintaining the Safety Standards that have been set in place for this event. Even if it means breaking character, checking on a guest that appears to be in need of help, or assisting with an evacuation, must be our top priority. Everything else can be sacrificed for a safety reason. We will go over our Safety Policy as part of your training, but in short we look for and eliminate things that could cause harm to a guest or ourselves: things like trip hazards, nails sticking through walls, loose decorations that could fall, obstacles that block aisles, etc. We entertain a ton of people and the main reason they stay safe year after year is because we make sure that nothing gets in the way of them having a safe experience.
