The Learning Experience
The Scream at the Beach Intern Program learning experience includes a series of weekly workshops during the month of September,
which focus on the various elements of show production at Scream at the Beach including the Company's history, philosophy, and culture. Opportunities are offered for additional contact with live show production professionals.
The Volunteer Experience
Students may work in a variety of assignments throughout their program from July through October. The number of hours they volunteer will be supplied to the school. Each student will be assigned a mentor who will personally coach and guide the student through his or her learning and volunteer experience.
The Team Experience
The Entertainment Division provides all of the live entertainment at Scream at the Beach. Our success in show production depends on all the technicians, performers, musicians, characters, costumers, cosmetologists, and entertainment managers working together as a team. In addition, we are dependent on all the Operations, Maintenance, and Custodial cast members helping us to give our GUESTS the best possible experience here at Scream at the Beach.
Roles
As a Production Intern, you will find that your role is varied and may include elements that you didn't expect. In a nutshell, we create the thematic environments that the actors inhabit. In practice, this can include setting up the Audio, Lighting, A/V, and Stage support for all live entertainment, as well as constructing Sets, Props, and Special Effects for our attractions. You will use many tools and techniques to accomplish a wide variety of tasks that arise during our daily "routine." No matter what your specialty was before you arrived, you will quickly discover that flexibility and adaptability are essential.
Costuming Internships involve two primary areas of concentration, show support and operational support. All interns will attend applicable entertainment technical seminars.
Your intern experience allows you to become familiar with many aspects of costuming, both operational and entertainment. You will have the opportunity to see how a costume comes to life, experiencing it from conception to completion.
Performance Interns receive training in a series of four weekly workshops on improvisation, techniques for scaring, and the psychology of fear. You may also be given opportunities to perform in pre-event publicity stunts and for our guests during the run of the event.
Early on in your experience, you will be asked to identify a project or presentation to be completed by the end of your term. Additionally, you will be assigned to a mentor who will help guide your learning experience.
Pay
Students who participate in our program do so with the understanding that they are volunteering to help raise funds for the American Red Cross - Oregon Trial Chapter. There is no financial compensation for volunteers. This is a free learning experience.
Relocation
Relocation is the responsibility of the student. Students will be expected to report for orientation on the date specified in your volunteer interest letter. Students leave the program the day after their program ending date.
Transportation
Each student must have reliable transportation to get to and from our location.
