September 14th marked the beginning of the 2002 season's training for all of the monsters who will inhabit Scream at the Beach. Weekly training sessions will continue to the opening of this event on October 11th, a special media and VIP night.

Monsters received instructions on haunted house safety, guest relations, and techniques for producing fear without getting clobbered. Ongoing rehearsals will concentrate on individual roles for each of the four attractions and familiarize cast members with the layout of the event, their duties and the expectations by TW Productions LLC, the company that is producing this event.

"Not every haunted attraction goes to the level of detail that we are," says Henry Miller, the designer of the attractions. "We are creating a theatrical experience that's very different from the typical haunt where people simply jump out and yell 'boo!'"

Monsters will fill the attractions with screams of terror, but they will also roam the reception area to both menace and pose with guests for pictures. Even the ticket sellers and information guides will be actors who will help to convey and add to the scary atmosphere.

Mr. Miller revealed that "last year we were rated as the #1 Halloween event in Portland and we are planning on improving that rating this season! We have a lot of fun at this event and the rewards are instantaneous as people scream in reaction to our antics, but we also take our work very seriously. You might say it's serious fun."

Anyone who believes they can fulfill the requirements of the various roles may request to join the cast. Families are encouraged to come together for some fun they can participate in together.

Schedule subject to change. More rehearsals will be scheduled with individual performers, depending on the complexity of their roles.
