Improv Meetups
Come have fun at the Middle Wednesday Portland Improv MeetUp in April. Wednesday the 14th of April from 6:30pm-8:30pm (*Ages 10+). It is going to be at “Captain Henry’s Pirate Store” in the Lloyd Center Mall, 1st floor next to the ice skating rink. Go to the Aft of the Store on the Port side just past the dressing rooms to the door marked "Pirates Only." There is a large party area in the back with seats and a small stage.
Come practice being witty, ad-libbing scenes, creating characters, and letting your imagination loose. If you’ve been a fan of “Whose Line Is It Anyways”, “Comedy Sports”, or Nick Cannon’s "Wild 'n Out", then you already have an idea how this works. This group is not a bunch of professionals but everyone is welcome to participate and contribute to everyone’s fun and learning. (Much of this is spontaneous and in character so if innuendo or curse words offend you easily, please be aware they may occur!)

There have been requests to have an opportunity to perform a few pieces open mic style, whether it is a song, poem, comedy, etc... If no one objects at the MeetUp we will allow anyone willing a 3 minute window for this about mid meeting, so if there is something you may want to perform or try out and it is 3 minutes or less come prepared to perform it if the opportunity comes up.
Activities
We start off with some snacks & drinks, introductions (an ice breaker), and visit for a few minutes. About 6:45pm we launch right into playing some short form of improv games, and just have fun playing until time runs out. If you have to come late or leave early it is fine as the format allows for a lot of flexibility. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in, and be prepared to make a fool of yourself and laugh out loud. We play mainly short form improv games. The size of the group ranges from 5-15 most evenings. So you get a lot of opportunity to participate as we rotate every 3-5 minutes or so.
Come Prepared
This coming meeting we have a few requested Items to bring if you can.
- First we need each person to bring 21 small pieces of paper with the following written on them:
- 3 slips with a unique occupation/job title. ((Dog Walker, Stuntman))
- 3 with a setting/location. ((Dentists, Ship, Closet))
- 3 with a favorite line or quote. ((Say hello to my little friend!))
- 3 with an Emotion. ((Happy, Sad, Angry))
- 3 with a Quirk - ((Compulsive Licker, Believe they are a Parrot))
- 3 with a Genre of Movie/TV Show - ((Musical, Film Noir, Action))
- 3 with a Favorite Character Type or Celebrity - ((Frankenstein, Paris Hilton, a spoiled child))
- Second we need a few wacky or unusual hats for a game.
- Thirdly if you're familiar with the game "Props", then please bring a strange or hard to identify item that you don’t mind people handling. Keep it hidden in a brown paper bag until it is time to use it in a game of props (as seen on whose line is it anyway).
